5 Fandom Friday: Character's I Would Name My Kids [Pets] After

Saturday, February 28, 2015

I know, I know... I'm a day late [again].  Better late than never though right?  Ahah.  I've had so much awesome stuff happening that has kept me crazy busy.  [Liiiiike have you seen my etsy shop?]  I love every minute of it!  You know I prefer to be busy over having nothing to do.  Nothing to do... There's no such thing!  There's ALWAYS something you can find that needs done.

Anyway, this week's 5 Fandom Friday is Character's I Would Name My Kids After.  What a fun prompt we have this week!  I have a 16yo and even though I'm still young I'm totally done with having babies.  My 1 kiddo is enough lol.
So I'll make my list be what I'd name my pets.

||1} Quorra: I'm starting with her because I already have a cat named after her!  I loved this character and how badass she was.  My Quorra was sick as a kitten and had a rough start.  I gave her a strong badass name so that she would be a fighter.  She was.  Now she's strong and dominates her sister.

||2} Luna: Why? Because it's an adorable name and she was a fun quirky character.  I could definitely see me naming a pup Luna.

||3} Adipose: Hear me out... I know that it's gross but THEY'RE adorable and it's a fun word "Adipose".  Can you imagine saying "Adipose, no!  Put that down!" ahahah

||4} Olivia Benson: Uhhh because she's a total badass.  I'm literally in love with this character/woman.

||5} Sirius: No explanation needed.

What 5 characters would you name your kids or pets after?

5 Fandom Friday: Songs That Changed My Life

Friday, January 23, 2015

Music lovers: grab a cup of coffee, this is going to be a long read!

I haven't participated in 5 Fandom Friday in awhile.  I feel like since my last one where I said I wanted to post 5 days a week, life has been nuts and hasn't let me...  Between deaths of friends & family this month, being sick, and getting in the post holiday routine, I've been a mess.  Anyway, I'm posting a 5 Fandom Friday today && it's a great one!

Music.  Music is everything.  One of my favorite quotes is from the movie "Across the Universe".  JoJo says "Music's the only thing that makes sense anymore.  Play it loud enough and it keeps the demons at bay".  I think that sums up music pretty perfectly.

Now I can sit here and drive myself absolutely bonkers analyzing && stressing to come up with the perfect list of 5 songs that changed my life.  I can't do that.  I just can't.  There are SO MANY songs that have changed my life from Buddy Holly, to The Beatles, to Pink Floyd, to Tori Amos, to Incubus, to even MCR...

I used to joke that I'd rather go blind than deaf because I can't imagine a world without music.  Now that I have eye problems and I AM going blind, that's not so funny anymore, but you get the point.  Music has been there for me since I was a little girl obsessed with Buddy Holly.  Seriously.  All my friends were listening to New Kids On The Block, and I was jamming out to a 1950s rock rebel from Lubbock, Texas.  I watched "The Buddy Holly Story" starring Gary Busey every single day of my childhood.  Before I could even read.  One day I told my mom that I was going to see Buddy when I was old enough to go to concerts.  She was speechless.  See... what I didn't know is that at the end of the movie, Buddy died in an airplane crash.  They don't show that in the movie.  They only tell you in text on the screen.  I couldn't read, and I didn't know.  It never occurred to mom that I missed that.  So she sadly explained to me the ending of the movie.  The ending to his life.  I was devastated.  I bawled for my first music love.  I cried for his pregnant wife, who unfortunately miscarried not long after the crash.  Mind you... this all happened about 23 years before I was born.  This is just a little example of how deep my passion for music runs.

So as you can see, to analyze and pick only 5 songs that changed my life would be impossible.  I'd feel like I was cheating on anyone that didn't make the top 5.  I'd make myself crazy...

Instead I picked 5 Songs that I listened to obsessively during pivotal moments in my life.  Songs that not necessarily changed my life, but helped me through events that changed my life.

||1} Tori Amos, God: Tori Amos was a HUGE part of my teenage years.  This red head siren was literally the first woman I ever loved [in a non-family way lol].  Her haunting voice, and the intimacy she has with her piano captivated me.  I was a pianist myself and she was my Goddess.  When my mother died I was in a dark place.  I was 17 when she died from a sudden illness [it only took 6 days].  Naturally I turned to Tori and this song in particular was what I listened to.  With lyrics like, "God sometimes you just don't come through..." it pretty much summed up how I was feeling.

||2} APC, Judith: I am and always will be in love with Maynard James Keenan.  That voice of his... hypnotizes me.  The song Judith is about Maynard's mother.  He had a hard time accepting her death [as I did with my mother].  I won't go into his story here, but I relate.  It's been almost 15 years since my mom died, so I'm obviously in a healthier state of grief.  I miss her every single day, but it doesn't consume me like it did.  However, every April 22nd, the anniversary of her death, I tend to hole up by myself and blast some Judith.

||3} Evans Blue, Over: We've all had that one breakup in our life that seriously [excuse my language] fucked us up.  You know what I'm talking about.  The breakup that turns you into this shell of a person.  The breakup that when you look back on, you say "why?" when you reflect on how much it effected you.  Because NOW you know that it obviously wasn't worth it, and your life is SO much better without that person in it.  I almost laugh when I look back on that relationship & breakup.  It's funny how love can make you blind to someone who's truly a sociopath and incredibly unhealthy for you to be around.  Well going through THAT breakup was hard on me at the time.  I think honestly the main reason it was so hard for me, was it was the first time I had been dumped.  I was always the "dumper".  Anyway, the ENTIRE Evans Blue album "The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume" got me through that breakup.  I chose "Over" because it was one of my favorites.  I still love this album and I recommend it to ANYONE going through a breakup.  Both the studio original release and the later released acoustic version of the album.  I've included both versions of the song for you because I couldn't pick between the two.

||4} Jem, Falling For You: Ahhh onto a HAPPIER time.  With every breakup comes the excitement of the next relationship.  However, fear always peeks in at this time as well.  Right after the above mentioned breakup, came the greatest love I've ever known.  I listened to this song A LOT at the start of this relationship.  We were friends that didn't live in the same city && it gradually turned into something REAL.  This song captured all the emotion of being scared to give someone your heart again.

||5} Sarah McLachlan, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy: This song embodies what immediately came from the previous song && feelings.  That moment when you decide you can't deny yourself possible true love out of fear.  You have to risk it all.  You can't "fear love".  To me not only is that what this is about, it's also about not stifling ANY emotion.  The relationship I spoke of in the last song, I'm happy to say is still going strong 7 years later.  This person has all of me.  Mind, body, and soul.  Everything is on the table.  It's a true love with no fear or reservation.  We are 100% ourselves with each other, and we're the best of ourselves together.  Best friends & lovers.

Oh you guys I have something fun for you today!  Kawaii Box was nice enough to give me a free box for review && offer a giveaway for my readers!  I have been eyeballing this subscription box for quite some time now and it definitely lived up to the hype!

||Giveaway at the end of the post!||

Let's get RIGHT to it!!

When you open the box, you'll see some cute tissue paper.  It's wrapped awesomely to protect your super amazing kawaii items.  The outside of the box had more stickers, but I took them off and upcycled them into my planner!

When you open it, you literally want to squeal!  All the cuteness!

These little cookies are not only cute, they're yummy too!  Little panda faces with different expressions.  They're chocolate with a chocolate coating on top of a cookie.  They're almost too cute to eat!

SEE!!!! <333
Okay... so they're a little wonky from being rubbed up against each other in their box.  I tried to dust them off the best I could.  But seriously... how cute?!

Oh hai, Hello Kitty cuticle scissors!  How CUTE are these?!  Okay, so maybe this post needs a warning of how many times I'm going to say "CUTE".  I can't wait for the next new false lashes I purchase so I can trim them with these!

So I'll admit to you... the first thing I did when I opened the box was put this on my head.  I did.  Truth.  I wore it for several hours lol.

Love this cute little bunny (?)!  He has a key chain on his head so you can attach him to something.  I wouldn't advise using him as a key chain though.  It looks like it might come off easily.

Ohhh kawaii + office supplies!  SOLD! Ahah!  I'm actually not going to use these guys this year since Christmas is almost over.  They'll be packed up with my other seasonal office supplies for next year!

Craft embellishments!  I'll likely be finding a way to use these for my planner!  They are so cute and sparkly!

I'm loving this little coin purse!  Idk what I'll use it for yet.  It's soooooo soft and pretty.  Looks like fluffy cotton candy!  I just adore it!

Donut!  With SPRINKLES!  It's a little squishy charm that is absolutely adorable.

Ummm... so... I stole some of the stickers out of this for my week 52 planner pages before I got to take a picture lol.  You'll see them in next week's planner decoration though!  These Christmas themed stickers are too cute.  They're the puffy style stickers with kawaii Christmas items.  Adorb.

I love LOVE notebooks.  This one is super (yup, you guessed it) cute.  It opens up and looks like a heart.  There's a few different sections with different colors of paper.  Great for jotting down little love notes ;-)

This little holiday card that opens up to look like.........

5 Fandom Friday: My Must See List of Christmas Movies

Friday, December 19, 2014

Ooohhh I LOVE Christmas movies!  I was super excited when I saw that this was a 5FF topic!  Now... picking only 5 Christmas movies will be hard!  These are in NO particular order.  That'd be impossible.

||1} White Christmas: I love this movie.  It's only recently become one of my favorites.  I'm sure I watched it with my parents when I was young, but was just reintroduced within the last few years.  I LOVE musicals!

||2} Love Actually: This movie is everything.  If you haven't seen it, do it now.  It's on Netflix.  Go!  Such an A+ cast with a wonderful heartwarming story.  I watch it several SEVERAL times each Christmas.  I'm actually watching it right now as I write this post!  This movie makes me so happy inside.

||3} ELF: Will Ferrell as Buddy is the greatest thing ever.  This movie makes me laugh so HARD!  My family often refer to me as Buddy because I love Christmas soooo much.

||4} Scrooged: This one is from my childhood.  My parents would watch this every year and I've kept the tradition.  Bill Murray is amazing, and this film is hilarious!  Seriously, if you haven't seen this one either you need to.

||5} Die Hard: Yup.  I'm in the "Die Hard is a Christmas movie" club.  Don't argue.  It's a Christmas movie!  I LOVE the Die Hard franchise.  I'm not usually into this type of action movie, but I love these!

||Honorable Mentions||
Because I CAN'T just pick 5...

A Christmas Story

Christmas Vacation

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

Are any of these on your list!?  Tell me your favorite Christmas movies below!

We're huge movie buffs in my family.  This lead to a Christmas tradition that we have kept up for years.  Every year I pick a "movie" and put together a gift basket full of items for our Christmas Eve movie night.  We open the gift on Christmas Eve, snuggle on the couch together, eat snacks, and watch the movie.  This year I chose Guardians of the Galaxy!

We love Guardians of the Galaxy around here, so it was an obvious choice!  Guardians of the Galaxy released this week onto DVD and Blu Ray.  I went to Wal-Mart at 7:30am on release day to pick up the movie and some other goodies for our basket.  You know how much I love music, and this movie has one EPIC soundtrack!  So that was a MUST HAVE as well.

While picking up the movie and the soundtrack at Wal-Mart, I decided to pick up a fun movie themed toy to add to our basket.  I found this awesome end cap with all kinds of toys!  If I had little ones, I think we would have purchased everything!  I was wanting some cute action figures my teenage son could put on his shelves or desk.  I found exactly what I was looking for!

||What You Need||

guardians-of-the-galaxy-soundtrack

For your Guardians of the Galaxy movie night gift basket, you will need the movie!  I chose the DVD which comes with a free digital download so you can watch it on your phones or tablets!  This will come in handy for holiday travel!  The Blu Ray comes with lots of extra features: exclusive character o-sleeve, zinepak, and a laptop decal!  I easily found the movie in the electronics department on an end cap.  This is also where I found the soundtrack.  This soundtrack is super duper awesome you guys!  It's a Wal-Mart exclusive and comes with extra goodies!  Then I also picked up these cute action figures.  The pack has Groot [I am Groot!], Rocket Raccoon, and Nova Corps Officer.

This soundtrack deserves pictures of it's own!  When you open the packaging, it has the CD on the left, then a 64 pg magazine, and a laptop decal.  The "zinepack" is full of Guardians of the Galaxy behind the scenes info and random trivia related to the movie & music.

Here's the back of the soundtrack packaging.  It's the final page of the magazine and tucked into the back panel is a Guardians of the Galaxy "Awesome Mix Vol. 1" laptop decal!  I will totally be putting this on my laptop!

Since we're making a gift basket, you'll need something to conceal the movie items in.  We don't want anyone knowing what the movie is before movie night!  I chose this adorable gingerbread felt gift bag.  It held the movie, the soundtrack, and the Guardians of the Galaxy actions figures.

You will want to add in your favorite movie candy and popcorn!  We also chose these cute Christmas cups with Christmas paper straws <33  Can you tell we like candy around here? Ahah!

Here's my basket all put together!  I went with a gingerbread cellophane gift basket bag to match the gingerbread bag that contains our movie items.  This makes a really large gift basket!  I love our movie night tradition.  It's a great way to spend some quality quiet time together before the hustle & bustle of Christmas Day.  It's also fun to open a gift on Christmas Eve!  This way the Christmas Eve gift is for the entire family.

guardians-of-the-galaxy-walmart

If you have Disney Infinity, Wal-Mart has an awesome deal for you right now!  This would be a great item to add to your bag!  Wal-Mart is offering a free $5 gift card with your purchase of a Guardians of the Galaxy Disney Infinity 2.0 character.  Your cashier will be prompted to give you your $5 gift card at check out.  So you will get it right away!  This offer is only available 12/7-12/13 so you need to hurry to Wal-Mart and grab yours now!

I hope this inspires you to do a Christmas Eve movie night!  It's so much fun for everyone!  I also recommend you use Guardians of the Galaxy as your movie too!  Guardians is super funny and has something for everyone.  Even grandma & grandpa will enjoy it!

5 Fandom Friday: My Favorite Holiday Songs To Spread Cheer

Friday, December 5, 2014

I missed last week's 5 Fandom Friday.  With Thanksgiving && Black Friday shopping, it just didn't happen.  And this week's I feel like I'm cheating a little because I did my favorite Holiday songs yesterday... [check it out]

So I'm going to take you back to my *ahem* emo days of 2005 when I found this amazing cd in Hot Topic...

I was able to find some of the songs on YouTube!  So I'm going to share that with you today =)  What's a 5 Fandom Friday post without some absolute randomness?

I still listen to this album every year.  I absolutely LOVE how incredibly random and different it is.  I'm not a huge fan of traditional Christmas music.  Which I'm sure you can tell from yesterday & today's post...  I hope you enjoy listening to the randomness I dug up for you today! <333
