Creative Life
Creativity has always been one of the ways I make sense of the world.
Some people relax by sitting still. I relax by making things — shaping clay, starting new projects, experimenting with ideas, and letting my hands stay busy while my brain wanders.
This section of the blog is where I share the creative side of my life.
Handmade and the Return of My Etsy Shop
One of my favorite creative outlets is my Etsy shop, EmileeSpeaks.
The shop originally started years ago during the planner community era, when decorative planner accessories were having a moment and I loved making small pieces that brought personality to people’s planning systems.
Life eventually got busy, the shop paused for a while, and then after some time away I found myself drawn back to creating again.
When I reopened the shop, my focus expanded into polymer clay creations.
These days I make things like:
Kindle charms
Nintendo Switch charms
planner accessories
tiny food charms and whimsical designs
They’re small objects, but they’re meant to add a little joy to everyday things like reading, gaming, or planning.
The Joy of Making Things
For me, creativity isn’t about perfection or mastery. It’s about play and curiosity.
Polymer clay is one of those mediums where you can constantly experiment with colors, shapes, and ideas. Some designs come together exactly as planned. Others evolve into something completely different halfway through the process.
Both are part of the fun.
In this space I like sharing:
the process behind new creations
ideas that inspire different designs
experiments that worked (and the ones that didn’t)
glimpses of the creative mess behind the finished products
Creative Hobbies Beyond the Shop
While my Etsy shop is a big part of my creative life, it’s far from the only outlet.
Creativity shows up in lots of different ways here:
journaling
crafting
experimenting with new hobbies
documenting little creative routines that make life feel fuller
Some projects are practical. Others are purely for fun.
But they all share the same purpose: making space for creativity in everyday life.
Creativity as a Companion to Reading
One of my favorite things is pairing creative hobbies with reading.
Audiobooks while working on clay pieces.
Music playing while sketching ideas.
A stack of books nearby while I work on something with my hands.
Creativity and curiosity tend to feed each other.
The more I read, the more ideas I have.
The more I create, the more inspiration I find in books and music.
