Reading Life

Reading Life

Books have always been one of the anchors of my life. Reading is where I go to learn, to explore ideas, and sometimes just to slow down for a while.

Over the years my reading habits have evolved quite a bit, but one thing has stayed the same: I love building a life that always has a book somewhere in it.

This section of the blog is where I document my reading life — what I’m reading, how I read, and the little systems and habits that help me stay connected to books.

The 75 Book Challenge

This year I set a personal goal to read 75 books.

For me, this isn’t about racing through as many books as possible or keeping up with anyone else’s reading pace. It’s simply a number that encourages me to stay consistent and curious throughout the year.

Some books are long and thoughtful.
Some are quick reads.
Some are fiction, others nonfiction.

The goal isn’t perfection — it’s simply to keep reading and keep learning.

Throughout the year I’ll share updates on the books I’m finishing, what I’m currently reading, and reflections on the ones that stick with me long after the last page.

Why I Mostly Read on Kindle

Most of my reading happens on a Kindle.

That’s partly preference, but also partly necessity. I have presumed ocular histoplasmosis, which has taken the central vision in my right eye and left blind spots that show up as dark dots when I read black text on white paper.

Because of that, reading on a Kindle with:

-a black background
-larger font sizes
-is much easier on my eyes and allows me to read comfortably for longer periods of time.

Physical books are still very special to me, though — especially when it comes to nonfiction.

Annotating and Reading Nonfiction

While I read a lot digitally, I still love reading nonfiction in physical books so I can annotate.

I enjoy highlighting passages, adding notes in the margins, and marking pages with tabs so I can return to ideas later. Annotating helps me slow down and really interact with what I’m reading rather than just moving quickly through the pages.

Some of the posts you’ll find here include things like:

-how I annotate books
-the supplies I use for annotation
-reading journal ideas
-book reflections and recommendations

Reading as Part of Everyday Life

Reading isn’t just a hobby for me — it’s part of the rhythm of my everyday life.

You’ll often find me reading:

-early in the morning with coffee
-in the evening as a way to wind down
-while listening to music that matches the mood of the book

Books often connect with other parts of my life too — journaling, music discoveries, and the quiet creative hobbies that make a home feel cozy.
