Inside My 75 Book Reading Challenge
At the beginning of this year, I set a goal that felt ambitious but still doable: read 75 books in one year.
For some people, that number might sound overwhelming. For others, it might sound modest. For me, it felt like the perfect balance between pushing myself and still keeping reading joyful.
Reading has always been one of the most grounding and comforting parts of my life. It’s how I learn, how I relax, and how I connect with ideas bigger than my day-to-day routine. So this challenge isn’t really about numbers. It’s about intentionally building a reading life that feels rich, curious, and cozy.
Why 75 Books?
I wanted a challenge that would keep me engaged with reading throughout the year without turning it into a stressful obligation. I saw a TikTok post about a 75 book challenge. I took ideas from it and kind of created my own personal challenge.Seventy-five books breaks down to roughly six books a month, which feels achievable when you mix formats like audiobooks, Kindle reading, and physical books.
The goal isn’t perfection. Some months will be heavy reading months, and others will be slower. The point is simply to keep showing up to books consistently.
The Mix of Books I Read
My reading life is a bit of a hybrid. I use a mix of formats depending on what kind of reading experience I want.Kindle Reading
Most of my everyday reading happens on my Kindle. I love the flexibility of adjusting the font size and reading in dark mode, which makes long reading sessions easier on my eyes.Kindle also makes it incredibly convenient to carry multiple books at once. My current reads, my next reads, and my “someday” reads all live in one place.
Audiobooks
Audiobooks are how I fit more stories into everyday life.I’ll listen while:
-driving
-cleaning
-working at my job
-going for walks
They’re perfect for suspense novels or fast-paced fiction that keeps me hooked. I’ve worked up to 2.75 speed and that has helped me reach my goals so far. And yes, I do retain what I hear haha!
Physical Books for Nonfiction
I still absolutely love physical books, especially nonfiction. When I read nonfiction, I like to annotate, highlight, and tab pages so I can come back to ideas later. These books become more like working notebooks than just something I read once.
How I Track My Reading
Part of the fun of a reading challenge is watching the progress build throughout the year.I track my reading in a few different ways:
-keeping a running list of finished books
-journaling thoughts about what I read
-noting favorite quotes or ideas
-occasionally sharing updates on Instagram
Tracking helps me remember what I’ve read and reflect on the ideas that stuck with me long after finishing a book.
What I Hope This Challenge Brings
More than anything, I want this challenge to deepen my relationship with reading.I want to:
-explore new genres
-read more nonfiction that expands my thinking
-experience stories that stay with me long after the last page
-build a cozy daily rhythm around books
Reading 75 books isn’t about racing through pages. It’s about creating a life where books are a constant companion.
Following Along
Throughout the year I’ll be sharing updates on what I’m reading, what I’m loving, and what surprised me.If you’re also doing a reading challenge this year, I’d love to hear about it. What are you reading lately? And what’s the best book you’ve read so far this year?
There’s always room for one more recommendation on the TBR.
