step into my closet: nerd shirt love

hello-kitty-adventure-time

95% of my wardrobe consists of yoga pants, jeans, t-shirts, && hoodies.  I'm a casual dresser.  I prefer to be comfortable.  Jess always laughs at me because I'll step out in yoga pants, tennies, a hoodie... then have a full face of makeup including false lashes.  I don't care.  If my hair is done && my makeup is on point, why does it matter what I'm wearing? Aha.

hello-kitty-adventure-time

Breaking it down even further, 99% of my t-shirts are nerd shirts or band/concert tees.  One of my favorite places to find nerd shirts is Shirt Punch.  Every day at midnight Shirt Punch puts up new t-shirts on their page that are $10.  Each day there's a different design.  I check them religiously every day.  That's where I got this Hello Finn t-shirt!  Adventure Time && Hello Kitty, it doesn't get much cuter than that.  I have a bunch of nerd shirts from my "t-shirt of the day" addiction, so I thought I'd start sharing them with you.

This one is my current favorite.  The t-shirt fits perfectly, the material is soft, it's just perfect.  That's why I chose this one to share today.  It's been my go to grab && go t-shirt lately.

week 40 [planner love]

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

As promised here's the moleskine turntable used in horizontal mode.  I didn't like it at first, but it really grew on me.  I really liked that I didn't feel like I had to squish my words up to fit the smaller vertical columns.  I've continued using it horizontally this week too, so we'll see how it goes.

I've also got some stamps on order to start using in my moleskine.  I'm trying not to go back to crazy decorating, but I really like the stamps I'm ordering.  I think they'd make things a little easier for lists && make it more uniform on the page.  I can't wait for them to get here!

Here's the full spread.  You can see I used different colored pens this week too.  Mostly because Jess keeps stealing my black frixion pens, so I'd grab whichever Frixion was handy.

adorn your android: how to personalize folders on your phone

Monday, October 6, 2014

Since the start of my blog I've shown you my monthly phone screens.  In fact I just showed you a Halloween theme last week.  I love Halloween, I love fall, I love October... but I quickly got sick of this theme.  I realized that in the hustle && bustle of whipping out a new theme each month, I was doing it just for the blog post and not for "me" anymore.  I wiped the screen and spent a good day playing with personalization that I haven't used in a long time.  I also realized that I wasn't exactly sharing my knowledge with you.  I was just posting pictures and being done with it.  SO I'm going to start showing you how!  Starting with "folders"...

First off: I don't root my Android device.  Honestly, I'm too chicken sh*t to do so.  Everything I ever show you will be available for non-rooted devices.

I've highlighted the folders that we're looking at.  These folders come in MANY different options.  You can even have the icons of the folder contents displayed on the folder.

Here's my folders.  I chose to not have them display the app icons because it was more streamlined and "clean".

I hate to say this because it's so lame... but you have to search using the words "girly folders" in the playstore.  I'm not sure why, but it seriously annoys me lol.   It makes me feel 12years old.  I'm using the 10th app, "retrogirly folder".  I believe this is a paid app, but there are a ton of folders that are free [or... you can acquire the paid app for free using aptoide].  Once installed, you will put the app onto your screen choosing the widget options from your device.

As you can see here I'm choosing my folders from my widgets.  It's the second widget in the second column.

Here's a plain screen with just the folder.  This is how your folder will look by default.  You'll need to tap it for more options...

After you've tapped your folder this is the screen that will show up.  You can name your folder here, change the settings, and add/delete apps to put into the folder.

Here's what comes up when you choose settings.  You can choose the name of your folder, select the display type [do you want 4 app icons, 9 app icons, or none like mine], and all the different designs are in here as well.

This is what the screen looks like when you select add/delete from the options.  As you can see here's your list of apps on your phone you can choose to add to the folder.

Once we have finished personalizing our folder, this is what it looks like whenever you tap it on your home screen.  Your apps are in there, as well as the settings && add/delete.

I wanted you to see what it looked like with visible icons on the folder as well.  In the first picture, the first folder has 4 icons chosen.  The second picture, the first folder has 9 icons chosen.  I didn't like the look so I didn't keep them that way.  I think of it like this... In real life we use folders to organize and "clean" up messy papers, and we can't see through our folders.  They're there to contain papers out of visibility.  That's what I'm doing with my apps.

I hope you enjoyed this little walk through on how to prettify your phone! <333

Top 5 Online Resources for FREE Knitting Patterns

Saturday, October 4, 2014

free-knitting-patterns

Sometimes with knitting, much like writing, you hit a road block.  Run out of ideas, need inspiration.  I have compiled a list of my favorite resources to locate free knitting patterns.  If you can't find inspiration from these 5 places, I don't think you'll find it anywhere!

||1} Pinterest
This might seem pretty obvious, but you'd be surprised at how often people forget to utilize Pinterest to it's full capacity.  I recently saw someone on Facebook ask for crock pot recipe ideas.  Another person commented and suggest Pinterest.  I don't know about you, but Pinterest is my go-to for most things.  I have several things pinned onto my Knitting board.  There are a ton of free knitting patterns on Pinterest.

||2} Ravelry
After Pinterest, Ravelry is my favorite place to locate free patterns.  I love the community on Ravelry.  Not only are there lots of free patterns, knitter's can comment about a pattern, get help on it, talk about it's difficulty level, etc.  Think of it as a social media site for knitters.  It's a wonderful site.

||3} Yarn Brand Websites
Whether you hop over to Lion Brand or Red Heart, you're bound to find something!  Think of it as an archive for all those little pull tag paper patterns in the craft store next to the yarn.

||4} Yarnspirations
Yarnspirations is like Ravelry & Yarn Brand websites in one.  I personally prefer Ravelry [I find the Yarnspiration site a little annoying to use] but A LOT of people love this site.  You should definitely check it out && make your own decision.  They do have tons of free patterns and inspiration.

||5} Knit Picks
Knit Picks is a fantastic tool for knitters.  Not only does it have free patterns, you can shop for yarn, accessories, books, and kits.

|| Bonus ||
I also highly recommend finding a good Facebook group for knitters.  I'm involved in several.  It's a great way to meet fellow knitters, see other's WIP, and share patterns.  Also, the knitting subreddit is a FANTASTIC place to interact with fellow knitters.  It's a wonderful community. Lastly, I highly recommend checking out the Vogue Knitting website.  They have lots of free patterns available.

I hope this helps inspire you when you get "knitting block".  What are you favorite places to find free patterns?

5 Fandom Friday: Gateway Fandoms That Made Me Who I Am Today

Friday, October 3, 2014

Good Friday morning! [or afternoon, or evening, or Saturday...] Hello to you whenever you're reading this!  Megan at The Nerdy Girlie && Kristin at Super Space Chick are hosting a community series called 5 Fandom Friday.  It's going to be every Friday [obvi], be centered around Fandoms [obvi], and be a list post of 5 [obvi].  5 Fandom Friday.  So with that overly long explanation about something that's fairly self-explanatory... let's get to it! <333

||1} Rocky Horror Picture Show

I have loved this movie since before I was able to understand what was going on... aha!  I had an aunt that babysat me a lot && she was a major nerd.  It was the 80s & 90s long before being nerdy was considered "cool".  She loved Twilight Zone, Doctor Who, Star Trek, horror fiction books, all things sci-fi, and Rocky Horror.  She introduced me to Rocky Horror at an age that made my parents quite pissed when they found out [everyone has to have that one awesome aunt that lets you get away with stuff your parents won't]!  I was singing "toucha toucha touch me, I wanna be dirrrty" without even understanding the context.  Not only did this awesome aunt of mine let me watch Rocky Horror, she had the soundtrack on cassette tape.  We'd listen to it while playing Super Mario 3 on Nintendo.  I could sing every word & act out every dance to Rocky Horror by the time I was 9 years old.  I owe all of my nerdiness && fandom love to my aunt Ginger [love you aunt Ginger!].

||2} Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Ahhh Buffy.  I put the picture of the series, but myyy love affair with Buff started with the movie.  I was absolutely obsessed with the movie.  Let's see, I was about 10 years old when the movie came out [showing my age again].  I was instantly hooked.  I even made my mother find me hideous iridescent tights like she wore.  I'd traipse around the yard "working out" [training, aha] pretending to get all buffed up to fight vampires.  Yes I was incredibly lame...  Then the series aired when I was in high school and the love affair started all over again.  I still go back every few years and re-watch the entire series.  I've passed this love on to my son [who is in love with Willow].  I can sing you every single song from the musical episode, "Once More With Feeling".  I could listen to Giles [Anthony Head] and Spike [James Marsters] sing for hours...  I'm kind of obsessed with musicals if you haven't noticed.

||3} Vampire Chronicles [and all Anne Rice]

I feel incredibly lucky to have started my vampire fandom with Anne Rice instead of Stephanie Meyer.  My vampires didn't sparkle.  My vampires couldn't go outside during the day.  My vampires weren't emo teenagers.  My vampires WERE vampires!  It's been such a long time since I read these... I think I'll reread them now!  Shout out to all Anne Rice though.  I love her writing.  Even her erotica [which I read in high school, lol].

||4} The Nightmare Before Christmas

You can read all about my love for this movie in my Fall Favorites post.  I have been watching this movie yearly since it came out in 1993.  My parents loved it [lucky for me!] so we watched it over && over from October to January every year.  We considered it to be a Halloween AND Christmas movie, ahah!  I have always been obsessed with this movie && can often be found singing "Kidnap the Sandy Claws, lock him up real tight..." at random any time of the year.

||5} Empire Records

This movie is EVERYTHING.  Holy moly do I love this movie.  I was 13 when this movie came out && full of teenage angst lol.  This movie has everything.  The different personalities of each character is so amazing that you can't pick a favorite.  Man I miss the 90s... ahah!  Seriously though, even the soundtrack to this movie is dope.  My parents were musicians and had recording equipment hooked up to our TV sound system.  I recorded the entire movie onto cassette tapes and would listen to it in my room.  Just literally listen to the movie.  Needless to say, I know every single word.  I've worn out several dvd copies of this movie.  I accidentally picked up a "Fan Remix" edition of the movie, which included alternate scenes.  For example: In the original release of the movie there's a part where Rex Manning unzips his pants & says "Rock & Roll" when Corey propositions him for sex.  In the "Fan Remix" he says "hope you like blue cheese".... Ew.  As someone that can recite the entire movie word for word, I was caught off guard.  What the what?!  I have since learned to love the "Fan Remix" version as well.  If you haven't seen this movie, you must.  Like seriously go and do it right this second.  Damn the Man, Save the Empire!
