a blog, a playlist [May & June 2015]

Sunday, June 21, 2015

I debated on doing a playlist post this month because I've pretty much ONLY been listening to the new Tech N9ne album Special Effects.  However, since it's been 2 months since I've done a playlist post and I'm STILL listening to this album... I decided it deserved to be talked about.

I'm seriously obsessed with this album.  Holy Smokes.  This is some great music.  I'm incredibly impressed with it.  It almost plays like a concept album centering around a specific theme, the death of his mother.  It's by far my favorite music they've produced.  I tend to be a sucker for concept albums though.

This album mixes up Tech N9ne's hardcore rap with alternative rock, metal, and gospel.  It's fabulous.  One of my favorite songs from the album "Lacrimosa" [which is Latin for "weeping"] is a beautiful mix of rap and gospel.  Very powerful.  I have a soft spot for music written from pain of loss.

Guest Appearances on the album by: Eminem, Yo Gotti [love ♥], TI, Hopsin, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Slipknot.

||Favorite Tracks from Album||

♥ Lacrimosa
♥Shroud
♥Hood Go Crazy
Bass Ackwards
♥Speedom
♥A Certain Comfort
Burn it Down
♥Roadkill

In other "music news" with me, we're going to see The Smashing Pumpkins tomorrow!

Keeping it Real: How I Keep My Home Clean

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Working from home is very time consuming.  Being a professional blogger, Etsy shop owner, and YouTuber, I have my hands quite full.  I've been known to go into my office and not emerge for 12 hours.  This is especially conflicting at times since I have a family.  So how do I keep up on the housework while keeping my sanity?  I'll tell you!

 Here's what I do:

♥One day a week I do a full "once over" in every room.  This isn't a deep cleaning session.  I spend about one hour just going over what is "noticeable" in each room.
♥Each week I concentrate on one room for deep cleaning.  Then I do a little each day in that room.
♥Every day I make sure my dishes are clean, living room is picked up, bathroom is quickly wiped down [it makes it easier to deep clean when the time comes, if you lightly wipe down every day].
♥Each week I clean my phone and my laptop.  I use them both so much, I know they get germy.

Let me tell you about my current favorite cleaning products.  I'm a major sucker for anything with "NEW" on the label.  I love trying new products.  While at Target browsing the "Wipes" section in the cleaning department, I found some new Clorox products.  There were Clorox Triple Action Dust Wipes, Clorox Scrub Singles for the bathroom, and Clorox Pump 'N Clean for the kitchen.  I was instantly drawn to the ease of use of these products.  Anything that will save me time is a winner in my book.  I quickly tossed them into my cart.

||BONUS|| Each one of these products have a coupon you can use in the Target Cartwheel app.  From June 7th-July 4th, you can get 10% of each item when you use your Cartwheel app at checkout!  New products to try PLUS a discount!  Sold!

The Clorox Pump 'N Clean Kitchen & Dish Cleaner is amazing!  I use this product every single day to quickly wipe down my counter tops and stove.  The bottle is pretty enough to sit out on the counter by the sink.  I just pump a couple pumps onto a sponge and wipe down my kitchen.  It's super fast to use, effective, and food safe.  I've even used it to clean up a spill in my refrigerator.  So easy to use, you only need one free hand which is great for busy moms.

I live in an industrial/rustic loft style apartment with exposed brick walls.  The brick creates a lot of dust!  My desk in my office is pushed up against a brick wall and my desk needs wiped down almost daily.  I picked up the Clorox Triple Action Dust Wipes to see if they'd be handy for my office.  They are!  I should also mention we have 2 cats that think my desk is their bed... These wipes grab everything.  They're dry which I like so I can use it, toss it, and get right to business without having to wash my hands.  The Wipes pick up dust, hair, and allergens.  I took these to my office and they have stayed there.  It has made my office cleaning so quick and easy.

I'm a huge believer in wiping down the bathroom every day.  It makes it so much easier when I do a full on deep clean.  Since I don't want to wash "cleaning rags" every day, I like to use disposable products I can use quickly.  I picked up the new Clorox Scrub Singles at Target.  These little pads have Clorox in them so all you have to do is wet them and then use them.  They're great for the bathroom sink, tub & shower, and counters.  I also like to use them for the toilet seat and the outside base of the toilet.  These pads are awesome for soap scum.  I keep a box of these in my cabinet under my bathroom sink so I can easily clean and go!

It can feel like a never ending cycle trying to keep your home clean.  I hope my tips help you.  I for one would rather "live" in my home than to have everything be immaculate 24/7.  I think most of us are that way.

The biggest tips I can give you when it comes to housework is:

♥BE REALISTIC!  If you can't get it all done, don't beat yourself up over it.
♥Take advantage of time saving products like the new Clorox products I mentioned in this post.
♥Do a little each day, don't save EVERYTHING for one long day of cleaning.  That can be really overwhelming.
♥Put on your favorite music and just get started.  Dreading doing it, and putting it off only makes it worse.

Have you tried these new products by Clorox?  Did you take advantage of the Cartwheel app for savings?  What are your best tips for staying on top of the housework and keeping things "Real Life Clean"?

week 23 2015 | PLAN WITH ME

Saturday, June 13, 2015

This week's layout was created in memory of my Aunt Ginger that passed away suddenly and the cause is unknown. Her funeral was this week so I wanted to decorate my pages in her favorite things [pink & Doctor Who]. She was an amazing person and had a huge impact on the person I am today. She introduced me to the world of Sci-Fi at a young age. We'd watch Doctor Who, Labyrinth, Rocky Horror Picture Show, etc. She also made me a life long Elton John fan. We'd listen to Elton John's "Too Low For Zero" album and play Super Mario Bros 3 on NES when I was little. I will miss her very much and this is my little way to memorialize her the best that I know how.

Enjoy the Little Moments of Summer

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CokeHappyHour #CollectiveBias

Summer time is here!  School is out, the humidity is rising, and so is the electric bill ahah!  For moms like myself who work from home, it can be difficult to stay on task with everyone home.  I would much rather hangout with my family than do my work.  So I make sure to schedule in moments every day to do something fun to spend quality time with those I love.

We really enjoy going to the local park to watch the ducks & geese.  It's a simple outing and free, but is incredibly entertaining.  Before we went, we stopped off at Walgreens to pick up refreshments.  They have Happy Hour every Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 to 7:00pm, Buy 1 Coca-Cola 20 oz. bottle and Get 1 Free 20 oz. bottle to share! You can load the coupon instantly on the Walgreens app or click here for more information.  Also with your rewards card May through July you get 3,000 Balance Rewards points when you buy participating Coca-Cola products when you purchase $10 of participating Coca-Cola products.  Be sure to check out Coke Happy Hour for all the promotional details!  We had a silly fun time digging through the bottles in the display for bottles with our names!

We've got a really pretty park with a very large pond.  The ducks and geese are all over!  It's so fun to just sit and watch them interact with each other.  We decided to go in the early evening when the sun wasn't as hot, and there was a mild breeze.  Summer time in Kansas can be excruciatingly humid!  Our pretty park is full of benches so you can just sit back and relax.

My only child is almost 17 years old.  He has a busy teenager life, and prefers the indoors these days.  However, even he enjoys getting out for awhile and relaxing at the park.  I caught this photo of him watching some little ducks nearby.  We always laugh at how the ducks are calm and not that interested in the humans around them, but the GEESE are aggressive and loud!  They're not at all afraid of us.

I also took this time to get some shots of the wildlife around us.  I love taking photos, and rarely get the time to take outside shots.  So I went crazy taking photos of everything on our little outing!

It's little moments like this that sometimes have the biggest impact.  Don't get me wrong, family vacations are a blast!  But some times the memories you make in little day to day life moments can be the most memorable.  For instance: I told my family we were going to go to the park to hang out, visit, and watch the ducks.  I also warned them that I was bringing my camera to capture everything.  When I pulled out my camera I realized I had left my SD card at home!  So they stayed at the park visiting while I ran home to get my SD card.  When I got back to the park, this is how I found them... Happy as can be, enjoying each other's company, and loving life.

Now my son will always remember "that time mom took us to the park to take pictures but forgot the SD card!". Or "when mom was trying to get the perfect shot and almost fell is goose poop!"  It's so important that in our busy lives we take time to be with our loved ones.  Enjoy every moment.  Big and small.  Each day you're creating happy memories and you may not even realize it.  Those are the moments we remember.  The memories we share.

This summer, how will you turn a simple "Share a Coke" happy moment into a lifelong memory?

week 22 2015 | PLAN WITH ME

Monday, June 1, 2015

This was a super fun week starting out.  I loved how this layout turned out, and was surprised at how much I ended up loving the color scheme.  I based the entire layout on a sticky note & paper pad I found at Target.  You can read all about my planning process for these pages on the Limelife Planners blog!  I wrote a post for them on my creative process for planning.

However, the week took a sad turn on Tuesday for me while I was shopping in Office Max.  I got a call from my Aunt telling me that one of my Aunts had passed away.  It was a sudden unexpected thing.  We were all in shock.  Week 23's pages [you'll see them next week] are dedicated to her and are a Doctor Who theme in Pink.
